2 Arrested For 2015 Robbery, Assault Of Man In New Cassel: Police

BREAKING: The men were arrested at Washington Correctional Facility in upstate New York.

Police arrested two inmates in an upstate New York prison on Wednesday for a robbery that occurred in New Cassel in July 2015.

According to authorities, an investigation determined Kevin M. Franklin, 20, and Dwight McCullough, 20, both of New Cassel, approached a 61-year-old making a Chinese food delivery on Railroad Avenue, knocked the man to the ground and began punching and kicking him on July 16, 2015 at 10:50 p.m.

Franklin and McCullough then removed cash from the man’s pocket and fled the scene on foot towards Grand Street, police say.

The 61-year-old was transported to a local hospital to be treated for contusions to the face.

Franklin and McCullough were arrested at Washington Correctional Facility in Cornstock. They were both charged with first-degree robbery.

Police say Franklin was additionally charged with two other robberies:

  • A taxi driver was robbed on Garland Avenue in New Cassel on May 27, 2015.
  • A food deliveryman was robbed on Laura Drive in Hicksville on June 25, 2015.

They will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
