Hicksville Man Assaults 4-Year-Old Girl, Her Parents: Police

BREAKING: The man came after the girl and her father with a baseball bat Thursday afternoon, police say.

A 4-year-old girl was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after police say a Hicksville man came after the child and her parents in an apparent fit of rage.

According to authorities, a 34-year-old man was walking down Atlas Lane in Hicksville with his daughter who was riding a bicycle when a vehicle backing out of the driveway almost hit them at 12:40 p.m.

The father slapped the rear of the car to alert the driver of their presence, causing the driver to exit the vehicle and come after the man and his daughter with a baseball bat, police say.

The father was able to wrestle the bat away from the driver, identified as 19-year-old David A. Wallach, but Wallach then ran towards the girl and knocked her to the ground with his forearm, injuring her back and neck area, police say.

The man picked up his daughter and brought her safely to a neighbor’s house while Wallach allegedly went to the family’s home and proceeded to throw baseballs through two front windows, causing them to break.

The wife of the 34-year-old man went outside of her home to see what the noise was about when police say Wallach shoved her into a car, causing her a shoulder injury.

Officers responded to the scene and found Wallach standing in the street. He was arrested without incident.

The 4-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Wallach was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
