Hicksville Water District to Hold Community Meeting

The Hicksville Water District (HWD) is holding a community meeting to keep residents informed as to all of the District’s ongoing and future plans to address emerging contaminants as well as address any concerns surrounding water quality within the community. The event—which will be held at the Hicksville Community Center, located at 28 W. Carl St. off Route 107, on October 22nd at 7:00 p.m.—will enable members of the Hicksville community to ask questions and learn about water quality, water conservation, new programs, infrastructure upgrades and emerging contaminants.

“It’s long been a priority of this board and the entire Hicksville Water District community to be fully transparent and foster an open and easy line of communication,” said Hicksville Water District Chairman Nicholas Brigandi. “This community meeting is a wonderful opportunity for residents to learn essential information about the water they drink and the efforts we are undertaking to protect it.”

The District’s community meeting will include a detailed presentation regarding HWD’s ongoing pilot programs, state-of-the-art treatment technology, ongoing District operations and facilities, infrastructure and water conservation needs. Furthermore, the community meeting will address concerns and mitigation plans regarding emerging contaminants, specifically 1,4-dioxane, which in recent months has been the subject of much discussion. Following the presentation, residents will have an opportunity to ask questions and have their concerns addressed by the District’s experts.

“Water providers across Long Island are facing some serious issues with regards to implementing treatment for 1,4-dioxane and unfortunately we are one of them,” said the Hicksville Water District has consistently delivered water that meets and exceeds all state regulations,” said HWD Secretary Karl Schweitzer. “This community meeting will detail our efforts to treat for this emerging contaminant, what it is going on with regards to our future operations and how all of this will likely impact future tax and water rates.”

To further engage with the community and help ensure the HWD’ community meeting comprehensively answers and addresses all questions or concerns from the community, the board of commissioners is asking residents to message them on Facebook or send an email to info@hicksvillewater.org with any comments they may have.

“We want to do everything we can to guarantee that all Hicksville residents have their voices heard and have their questions answered,” said HWD Treasurer William Schuckman. “If you can’t attend the public water community meeting, send us an email or a Facebook message. We want everyone in Hicksville to learn all they can about our most precious natural resource.”
