Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Hicksville Crash

The incident occurred Monday morning, police say.

A 21-year-old homeless man is in serious condition after police say he was struck by a car Monday morning while attempting to cross the road in Hicksville.

According to authorities, the man was crossing Newbridge Road, north of Duffy Avenue, when he was struck by a 2013 Toyota Avalon, driven by a 62-year-old man from Cambria Heights, at 8:30 a.m.

The pedestrian, whose name is not being released at this time, was admitted into the intensive care unit at a local hospital to be treated for serious head and body injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and the vehicle was released back to him after authorities conducted a brake and safety test.

Police believe this incident is non-criminal.
