Woman Stole Over $300,000 From Hicksville Roofing Company: DA

A Farmingdale woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing a total of $300,000 over the past three years from a Hicksville-based roofing company where she worked, according to the Nassau County District Attorney.

Between Nov. 2012 and Oct. 2015, Tracey Sportiello, 51, allegedly stole money from her employer by writing checks to herself and others that were unrelated to the business, the DA said.

She allegedly used the money for gambling trips to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and New York as well as other personal expenses, the DA said.

In addition, during the investigation it was revealed that Sportiello illegally collected more than $10,000 in unemployment benefits while she was employed by the roofing corporation, the DA said.

On Thursday she was charged with second degree grand larceny, third degree grand larceny and nine counts of first degree falsifying business records, according to the DA.

If convicted, she faces up to 5 to 15 years in prison.

She is due back in court on September 29 and was released to the custody of the Nassau County Probation Department.

“For more than three years, this defendant allegedly cooked the books and betrayed the trust that her employer placed in her to line her own pockets,” District Attorney Madeline Singas said. “We will aggressively prosecute this case and seek full restitution for the victim.”
