1. After Years Surviving Outdoors, Kitty Needs A Quiet Forever Home: Huntington Adoptable Pet Of The Week (patch.com) — A longtime outdoor survivor named Kitty is being fostered by a Huntington-area Good Samaritan and now urgently needs a quiet, adult-only, pet-free home where she can finally feel safe. Grateful Paw Cat Shelter says the 9-year-old tabby is healthy but easily overwhelmed, and thrives best with a patient person who lets her build trust slowly. Huntington residents are encouraged to consider adopting her or sharing her story so she can stay in the community she knows.

2. South Huntington School Reopens After 42 Years, New Pre-K Center Debuts (patch.com) — South Huntington families are starting the year with a new Silas Wood Pre-K Center and a fully renovated Memorial Sixth Grade Center, bringing a long-closed neighborhood school back to life. Gov. Kathy Hochul visited South Huntington to cut ribbons, highlight expanded free Pre-K and universal school meals, and praise the district's investment in its youngest learners and sixth-graders. The upgrades include modern labs, new cafeterias and spaces honoring local history.

3. Cold Spring Harbor Names New Assistant Superintendent For Human Resources (patch.com) — Cold Spring Harbor school families will see a new face leading hiring and staff development, as Dr. Alejandro "Alex" Rivera steps in as assistant superintendent for human resources. With experience as a principal in several Long Island districts and as a Touro University adjunct professor, he will focus on recruiting and supporting teachers and staff throughout their careers in the Cold Spring Harbor schools.

4. Woman Struck By Her SUV After It Rolls Backward In Huntington Station Driveway: Police (patch.com) — Residents in Huntington Station are being alerted after a 60-year-old woman was seriously hurt when her SUV rolled backward and struck her in a Townhome Way driveway. 5. More than 900 taxing districts on Long Island can make property tax bills difficult to understand (news12.com) — Huntington's Town Board is weighing whether to pierce New York's property tax cap, even as Supervisor Ed Smyth notes only about 7 percent of local tax bills go to town government. The story explains how school, library, and special district taxes across Long Island complicate what Huntington homeowners actually see on their bills.
