
Fellow sailor Chris Arleo of Huntington, a longtime sailor, passed away last week at the age of 58.
A memorial service was held on January 23 in Northport.
Chris “the hippy with the pony tail and VW bus” grew up sailing at Centerport Yacht Club. He worked as a sailmaker at Hard Sails in the 70s then opened his own repair loft by the name of Aeolus Sails. Later he worked as a rigger for Coneys Marine.

He crewed on many boats but was most known for sailing Star boats and skippering the Tartan Ten, Dreadlocks, to many victories. Chris was known and loved by many in the Huntington Bay area, Long Island Sound, and beyond. This sailmaker, rigger, cruiser, racer, teacher, and all around great guy will be truly missed.
