Apartment Fire Displaces 20 Residents in Huntington Station
The blaze occurred Monday morning, fire officials said.
Over 20 people living in a Huntington Station apartment building were displaced after a fire ignited in a second floor apartment Monday morning, according to fire officials.
About 35 firefighters responded to the blaze and helped evacuate all the residents, including two that were handicapped and elderly, at the Lincoln Farms Apartments on First Avenue and East 9th Street at 10:22 a.m., fire officials said.
Firefighters opened up all 30 apartments in the three-story building to check for occupants and found that the second floor apartment was heavily damaged and about five other apartments were affected by smoke and water damage.

The fire caused the entire building’s heat and electric to be shut down.
Those displaced were assisted by the Red Cross and the Suffolk County OEM, which used the St. Hugh’s Church, located at 21 E 9th St., as a temporary shelter.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire looks to be accidental. The incident is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal.
About 35 Huntington Manor firefighters responded to the scene using six trucks. They brought the blaze under control in about 40 minutes, fire officials said. All units were under the command of chief Frank McQuade and assistant chiefs Jon Hoffmann and Chuck Brady.
The Greenlawn Fire Department assisted at the scene and the Melville Fire Department provided standby coverage.
