  • CODE RED. A high-speed emergency notification system will alert Suffolk residents via email and text message before or during an emergency. Code RED includes a Hurricane Preparedness mapping tool that allows emergency managers to send notifications to specific areas in Suffolk County. Residents can register two phone numbers and one email address to receive the notifications.
  • Special Needs Registry. The Suffolk County Office of Emergency Management made the Special Needs Registry accessible for Suffolk residents to add anyone with special and functional medical needs into the registry, which is voluntary and free. It will help first responders and emergency planners locate and identify those who may need extra help or special sheltering during an emergency.

“Both the Code RED system and the Special Needs Registry greatly enhance the County’s ability to reach out and assist residents in the event of an emergency,” said Legislator Lou D’Amaro.
