Can we cure a Dysfunctional Congress? YES!
We need to unshackle the chains that bind Congressmen to big business The Constitution provides a way. We need a Constitutional amendment.
Disagreement among our founding fathers was settled by the Great Compromise resulting in the creation of two Houses of Congress. James Madison said Senators would serve for 6 years because they were expected to proceed with "more wisdom" than representatives. Today there is no compromise, great or small, in the Senate or the House and there is even less wisdom. The "my-way-only" endemic attitude can be traced to the emphasis on re-election with money from big business, like the NRA, pharmaceutical companies and Wall Street. Candidates are elected based on marketing rather than merit. The only cure is to propose and ratify a constitutional amendment limiting Congress members to one term. Besides a proposal by 2/3s of the House and Senate, fortunately Article 5 also provides for a constitutional convention called by 2/3s of the state legislatures. Ratification requires approval by 3/4s of the states, in a vote by each chamber of a state legislature. Let's let our local state politicians know that we are fed up with dysfunction at the national level and ask them to propose a constitutional convention authorizing term limits.
