Centerport Fire Department Helps Clean Homeowner's Chimney
Firefighters responded to the Centerport home Saturday evening for a report of a chimney fire, officials say.

CENTERPORT, NY — Centerport firefighters helped clean a homeowner's chimney Saturday evening, as it had been a fire hazard.
Roughly 20 Centerport Fire Department volunteers arrived at the McKinley Terrace home at 6:40 p.m. after a report of a chimney fire, according to Steve Silverman, public information officer. The firefighters arrived with a ladder truck, engine, ambulance and paramedic unit, under the direction of Chief Richard Miltner and Second Assistant Chief Kyle McLaughlin.
Crews used the ladder truck to inspect the chimney as firefighters checked the interior walls and found no hot spots or extension. Firefighters removed the debris from inside the fireplace. The homeowner was told to have the chimney cleaned and checked by a professional before using the fireplace again.
