Cold Spring Harbor Jr./Senior High School Hosts International Night

Students shared experiences surrounding the culinary delights they grew up enjoying. See some photos.

COLD SPRING HARBOR, NY — Around the World International Night at Cold Spring Harbor Jr./Sr. High School was a global cultural event where students shared experiences surrounding the culinary delights they grew up enjoying, the Cold Spring Harbor School District announced.

Using recipes passed down from generation to generation, the student chefs, along with many of their parents and grandparents, set tables filled with mouthwatering assortments of international cuisine.

International Club adviser, Merritt Monck-Rowley, and senior club officers, president Cleo Dallaris, vice president Samantha Meyer and senior class rep Madison Newman, orchestrated this amazing event.

"Thank you to the community for coming out to support this event and our students," teacher Merritt Monck-Rowley said. "It takes a village or a harbor, and I wouldn't be able do it without my crew, administrators and families. It is sad that my seniors are graduating, but at the same time it was so nice to meet my new seventh grade families."

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Genevieve LaGuttata also expressed her gratitude.

"To Ms. Monck-Rowley, words alone cannot express the gratitude that continues to permeate throughout our school community for your attention to details in planning such a memorable event and for all the time and effort you poured into spearheading this special night. Through her guidance and unbelievable organization, the students stepped up as leaders in facilitating a beautiful night, capturing the talents and passions of our students through cuisine and cultural
performances."

More than 20 countries were represented including, El Salvador Pupusas; Matzo Ball soup and Hamantasch from Israel; Czech Kyselice stew; Belgian waffles; French crepes; Polish meatballs; Italian cannolis; Dutch donuts; Cevapi, empanadas, gelato and so much more.

Students loved the food trucks, photo booth, henna tattoos, Pulsera Project bracelet fundraiser, with all proceeds funding education and employment in Central America, as well as wheel of fortune spins with former teacher, Chris Homer, who was thrilled to return, and so much more.
