Cops: Man, 19, Tried to Steal Another's Car and Wallet in Huntington
Armed with a hammer, the Huntington Station man ordered the victim to hand over his wallet and keys, police said.

A Huntington Station man was arrested Wednesday after attempting to steal a man’s wallet and vehicle in Huntington.
Suffolk County Police say a man was retrieving an item from his trunk at the Waldbaum’s parking lot at 60 Wall St., when he was approached by a man, armed with a roofing hammer, at approximately 1:30 p.m. The suspect, Thomas Rivas, 19, ordered the victim to hand over his wallet and keys. The victim told Rivas he had no money on him and ran from Rivas without handing over any proceeds. Rivas did not chase the victim.
The victim called 911. Second Precinct Crime Control Officers Christopher Timpone and Michelle McHugh, who learned of the attempted robbery from a broadcast notification, saw a man matching the description in front of the Southdown Market at 205 Wall St., at approximately 2 p.m. and arrested Rivas.

Rivas, 19, of Folsom Ave. in Huntington Station was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He is is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
