Cured Huntington Resident Looks to Raise $75K for Blood Cancer Research
Joel Wirchin looks to be named a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man of the Year through his fundraising efforts.

A Huntington resident is looking to raise up to $75,000 to help find a cure for blood cancers and to be named a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man of the Year.
Joel Wirchin was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma six years ago. Now that he is cured, he has devoted his time to help find a cure for blood cancers.

Hundreds of men and women in 61 chapters across the country will compete for the title. The man and woman who raises the most funds in 10 weeks is named Man and Woman of the Year. The candidates compete in the fundraising competition to honor local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Boy and Girl of the Year.
Wirchin’s fundraising efforts come to a close on Thursday, May 28.

Wirchin and his family became active participants and fundraisers for the LLS in 2009. He went on to raise nearly $16,000 in 2010 to be the third runner up in the Man of the Year Competition.
This year, Wirchin has joined the Man of the Year Competition once again to celebrate his six years of being cured.
Long Island Chapter’s 2015 goal is to raise $400,000 in funds for LLS.
