Initial DWI charge after March crash upgraded in a 12-count indictment, authorities say.
A Kings Park woman initially charged with DWI following a crash that killed an Island Park man in Smithtown in March pleaded not guilty to numerous upgraded charges during an arraignment Wednesday, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.
Natalia Simons, 36, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter in the first and second degrees, assault in the second degree, aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, speeding and failure to maintain lane.
Authorities say Simons was driving a Nissan Rogue northbound on Route 25A when she crossed over into the southbound lane and collided with a Toyota Camry driven by Larry Garwood just after midnight on March 13. Garwood, 59, was transported to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
