Ripe Art Gallery is pleased to present “Deconstructing POP” by Dave Rogers, a collection of paper cutting in the Chinese tradition. A New York based Artist, Rogers spent 14 years in the US Army, serving in Iraq and Bosnia. Rogers retired from the service after being injured while working on the search and rescue for the World Trade Center. After recovery, and earning a degree, Rogers moved to China where he was a professor of art at the university level. He lived there and traveled around the world for 7 years before returning once again to New York to pursue a career as a full time artist. Rogers has shown his work around New York and internationally, belongs to the China Art Association, and has been featured in the Chinese media. Rogers approach to the Paper Cutting process is a mixture of sculpting and paper cutting. Each piece is designed to mix the ideas of traditionalism and POP culture. The work is made using aluminum and mirror paper to give the pieces a reflective quality letting the viewer imaging themselves as part of the story. While most paper cutting are laid flat on the board these works are placed between two pieces of glass in an open frame allowing the light to cast shadows on the background, making these paper cutting sculptures of art. “Deconstructing POP” by Dave Rogers, will open on Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 5-8PM with the artist present to greet his guests and discuss his work. “Deconstructing POP” by Dave Rogers will be on display at Ripe Art Gallery until September 1, 2012.
