Fire Breaks Out Next Door To Rehabilitation Center In South Huntington [UPDATED]

A fire broke out in a structure next door to a rehabilitation center in South Huntington on Wednesday morning.

According to fire officials, Huntington Manor firefighters responded to the Apex Rehabilitation Center on Birchwood Drive around 7 a.m. to discover a fire in the attic of one of the facility's building.

Theresa Jacobellis, president of PrescRXptive Communications, told Patch in an email that the fire was completely confined to this separate structure, which is a residential building next to Apex Rehabilitation & Care Center. "At no time were our residents affected by or in any danger due to the fire next door," she said.

About 45 firefighters responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the blaze. There were no injuries reported.

The Huntington Manor Fire Department was assisted by the Dix Hills and Melville fire departments, while the Huntington and Greenlawn fire departments provided standby coverage. The Huntington Community First Aid Squad was also on the scene for EMS support.

Firefighters were on the scene with seven trucks, which were under the direction of Chief Mike DePasquale, and Assistant Chiefs Jon Hoffmann, Chuck Brady and Jim Glidden.

The Town of Huntington Fire Marshal is investigating the blaze.
