Fire Heavily Damages Building at Melville Day Camp
The maintenance garage partially collapsed last Thursday.
A large maintenance garage at a Melville day camp partially collapsed after it became fully engulfed in flames last Thursday night, fire officials said.
Nearly 80 firefighters responded to the maintenance garage, which was attached to another garage and a classroom structure, to find the structure heavily damaged at 6:23 p.m. at Crestwood Day Camp, located at 313 Round Swamp Road.
Firefighters aggressively attacked the blaze with mutual aid assistance from Huntington Manor, Dix Hills, Greenlawn, Plainview, East Farmingdale and Farmingdale fire departments. The fire was under control in about a half hour.

The adjoining classrooms suffered minor damage and no injuries were reported, fire officials said.
Four ambulances from Melville and Dix Hills Fire Departments were on the scene for EMS support during the fire. All units were under the command of Melville fire chief Mike McKeefrey with operations handled by assistant chiefs Jason Bernfeld and Paul Mahler.

Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
