GREENLAWN, NY — Harborfields High School students recently celebrated their homecoming, the district shared in a news release.

Firetrucks from the Centerport and Greenlawn fire departments led the way in the parade, and the sound of the Harborfields Marching Band filled the air as the parade participants marched from the public library to the high school, banners waving and smiles flashing in the sunshine.

The long-anticipated event was preceded by a bonfire the evening before and the crowning of Homecoming King Andrew Root and Queen Sofia Cuti.

Then it was on to James T. Brennan Memorial Stadium for the varsity football game. The crowd cheered as a giant American flag was held aloft as the band played "The Star-Spangled Banner."

The Tornadoes hit the field to take on the Deer Park Falcons, encouraged by the enthusiastic and acrobatic efforts of the high school and middle school cheerleading squads.

Deer Park jumped to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, but Harborfields quickly bounced back. Passes from Shane Longin to Dylan Wolf resulted in two touchdowns and got the Tornadoes back on the board.

The halftime show included performances by the marching band and kickline as well as special-themed dance performances by teams from each grade level.

The Harborfields football team fell to Deer Park, 26-12. However, the district called the day "memorable for the entire community."

"I am so glad we were able to have our homecoming celebration return for 2021," Principal Timothy Russo said via news release. "Our student government and leadership students, with the
support of their teachers and advisers, did an unbelievable job of planning our events and
Spirit Week festivities. They all worked so hard to reimagine some of our traditional events
such as the bonfire, parade, pep rally and carnival, and the atmosphere was awesome. I'm
really so thankful to all of our students, our faculty and staff, and the entire Harborfields
community for all their support of our students."
