Hockey Marathon Event Benefits Local, Huntington Charities

Held at Dix Hills Ice Rink, the event ran Sept. 6-7.

A marathon 24-hour hockey game at Dix Hills Ice Rink on Sept. 6-7 raised $170,000 for various charities across Long Island.

Organized by Jim Flanagan and Rob Ingraham, the event included appearances former New York Rangers Brian Leetch, Adam Graves and Stephen Matteau.

More than 70 local hockey players participated in the event, which raised $35,000 for North Shore Holiday House, a Huntington-based nonprofit that provides free summer experiences to Long Island from low-income communities; $25,000 for Friends of Northport Inc., or FRIENNDS, and $110,000 for Mission Be, an East Islip-based nonprofit that goes into schools and teaches children mindfulness.
