Huntington Beach Community Association Closed To Swimming
A high level of bacteria was detected in the waters of the Centerport beach.
CENTERPORT, NY — Huntington Beach Community Association, a beach nestled between Centerport and Huntington Bay, is closed to swimming due to high levels of bacteria being found. The Suffolk County Commissioner's office announced the closure on Saturday. It will stay closed until repeat testing shows acceptable levels of bacteria.
According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott, "bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat."
Residents can check for updates on closed beaches by calling the Suffolk County hotline at 631-852-5822.
