Here are the top stories today in Huntington:
- Massapequa Park man attacks team of sanitation workers in Oyster Bay. Daniel Cooney, 59, was arrested after he threw two bricks at an Oyster Bay garage truck on Atlantic Avenue. He then went to the rear of the truck and released some sort of chemical spray towards the workers. "Cooney was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, three counts of attempted assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon." (Patch)
- Huntington Station sewer system gets an additional $22 million investment from New York State. This brings the total amount that NYS has put into the project to $66 million. "Infrastructure is one of those issues that everybody seems to rally around," Smyth said. "It has been a long time coming. It's been neglected for decades. I'm happy to put as much resources as we possibly can into Huntington Station's resources, and the Town of Huntington's infrastructure resources as well. This is going to be a tremendous boost for economic activity in Huntington Station. It's gonna attract capital investment into the Huntington Station area, which has been lacking for decades. I look forward to it. I think it's going to be a real shot in the arm for Huntington." (Huntington Patch)
- Huntington to hold scavenger hunt from Saturday until May 31 to retrace steps of landscape painter Edward Lange. Lange was a German immigrant who lived in Huntington in the 1870s and 1880s, painting scenes of local life and scenery that he saw. The scavenger hunt will give participants the chance to compare what Lange saw to the contemporary world we live in now. (Huntington Now)
- Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund hosts town hall on gun safety in South Huntington. The discussion brought in a variety of speakers, including Linda Beigel, who lost her son in the Parkland shooting in 2018. "We all want people to be responsible gun owners," Beigel Schulman said. "Nobody wants to take away your gun." Gun violence has been on the rise and the Town of Huntington aims to curb the violence. (News 12 Bronx)
