- Tree lit up in gold in Huntington for Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. The tree was lit up outside Huntington Town Hall for children living with cancer or those lost to the disease. It will be lit up every night in September. (Huntington Patch)
- See photos from the Greenlawn Fire Department Parade and Fair. The annual fair was held on Labor Day weekend and drew thousands of people. Public Information Officer Steve Silverman said, "The event was very well attended by families who enjoyed the end-of-summer hometown tradition." (Huntington Patch)
- Dix Hills Fire Department to hold blood drive on Wednesday in remembrance of those who lost their lives on 9/11. The drive will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. at the fire department. (Patch)
- Northport man killed in single-vehicle crash in Fort Salonga. John Burke, 57, was killed when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a pole early Monday morning. Burke was ejected from the vehicle into a nearby creek and was pronounced dead at the scene. (TBR News Media)
- Corey McNamara named new principal of John Glenn High School in Elwood, effective Monday. “My goal as an educator has always been to create a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment where all students can feel connected and comfortable while striving to reach their fullest potential,” McNamara said via news release. “As principal, it is my plan to continue working towards this goal and along the trajectory that we have been on over the past several years in Elwood and at John H. Glenn High School when guiding our students towards being future ready.” (Patch)
