Here are the top 3 stories in Huntington today:

  1. After heavy rain, 63 beaches in Suffolk are closed to swimming. Swimming is prohibited when New York State determines bacteria levels in the water to be unsafe and the state recommends no swimming until the water has been flushed by two tidal cycles. Click the link for a list of what beaches are closed to swimming. (Huntington Patch)
  2. Huntington Hospital receives fifth consecutive Magnet designation for nursing excellence. They are the only hospital on Long Island to receive the designation five straight years. “Our nursing staff is known for upholding the highest standards of nursing,” said Susan Knoepffler, RN, the chief nursing officer at Huntington Hospital, via news release. “With this accomplishment, our community is assured high-quality compassionate care by our talented and dedicated nurses.” (Huntington Patch)
  3. Beechwood cans age restriction for Country Pointe in Elwood. Locals weren't initially thrilled when they learned the 385 townhomes were 55 and older. “Our initial application garnered feedback via email, online and in general conversations,” Beechwood Principal Steven Dubb told Newsday. “We will be scheduling civic association meetings to get formal feedback on our proposal.” The new proposal will also allow 20 percent of units to go to affordable housing applicants.
