1. Suffolk County closes several beaches to swimming, including three in the Town of Huntington. Knollwood and Fleets Cove Beach, and Huntington Beach Community Association Beach are closed until the health department deems the waters safe again. (Huntington Now)

3. 13 mosquito samples test positive or West Nile Virus in Suffolk, with 3 in Northport. "The confirmation of West Nile virus in mosquito samples indicates the presence of West Nile virus in the area," Suffolk's health commissioner Dr. Pigott said. "While there is no cause for alarm, we advise residents to cooperate with us in our efforts to reduce exposure to West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne diseases." The symptoms range from mild to severe and could be permanent, with people over 50 and immunocompromised more at risk. (Patch)
