Here are the top stories today in Huntington:
- South Huntington named 'Humane School District of the Year'. The South Huntington School District was named the 2021 'Humane School District Of The Year' by the Long Island Orchestrating for Nature (LION), according to a news release from the school district. South Huntington reached out to LION regarding a drain project the school district was working on in a nearby sump. LION joined with the school district to rescue about 20,000 tadpoles and minnows, 2,000 goldfish, and about 150 bullfrogs. Congratulations to the school district! (Huntington Patch)
- Huntington swears in department directors, sets meeting schedules. 2022 means the swearing in of department directors and the setting of meeting schedules for the year. New Town Supervisor Ed Smyth presided over his first town meeting and set the tone for his term. "I want to express how honored I am to be sitting here and serve as Town Supervisor," Smyth stated. "We sit here and serve the Town, representing all residents of the Town to the best of our ability, and I look forward to doing so with my colleagues on the Town Board."(Huntington Patch)

- Huntington Union Free School District: A strong first half and another great game from senior Emily Plachta lifted the Huntington girls’ basketball to its ninth consecutive victory without a loss as the Blue Devils topped Centereach 44-33. Plachta tallied 28 points, 13 rebounds five assists and six steals in one of the best performances of her high school career. (Facebook)
- Huntington Union Free School District: Clayton Ward scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists to power the Huntington varsity boys’ basketball team to a 57-35 victory over visiting league foe Centereach. The win improved the Blue Devils to 6-5.(Facebook)
- Huntington Union Free School District: Thirty-four students in grades 5 through 10 have been selected to represent the Huntington School District in this year’s Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA). Huntington has a tradition of sending a large delegation of top musicians to the SCMEA festival series. (Facebook)
