Here are the top stories today in Huntington:

  1. Police searching for man who flashed knife at an employee in a Huntington Station laundromat. The incident occurred at 10:35 a.m. on April 20 at Laundry Palace on New York Avenue. "Police described the man as a light-skinned Hispanic man in his early 20s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a heavy build. The man has been known to carry a knife, police said." Call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-221-TIPS with any information. A cash reward is offered when information leads to an arrest. (Huntington Patch)
  2. Man assaulted outside Finley's in Huntington Village. Police are searching for the man who punched a victim, causing him to need medical attention and treated for non-life threating injuries. The incident occurred back on April 3 around 2 a.m. (Huntington Patch)
  3. Cold Spring Harbor School District was nationally recognized as a Best Community for Music Education. The nomination goes to schools for its outstanding K-12 music program. "As a small high performing district, Cold Spring Harbor students are pulled in many directions from academics and athletics to clubs and activities," Cold Spring Harbor K-12 Music Coordinator Brent Chiarello said. "The arts have always had a strong core here among our students, and our current district administration has been extremely supportive of the work the teachers and students do. Receiving this recognition showcases that hard work and dedication and reinforces that our school district is competitive with the best music programs in the nation."(Huntington Patch)
  4. Grand opening of $24.7 million Half Hollow Hills library set for May 1. The library opened back in March and the three-floor building has state-of-the-art technology and an auditorium with a movie screen. "We are beyond excited to finally be ready to give the community what they deserve," Library Director Helen Crosson stated. (Patch)
