Here are the top 3 stories in Huntington today:

  1. Huntington Arts Council names new Director. After it was announced last month that Director Mark Courtade was retiring, there was no immediate announcement on who was taking his place. The Arts Council has announced that Kieran Johnson will be the new Executive Director. Johnson has worked at the Arts Council for the last four years, serving as Director of Community Partnerships and Development, and Business Manager. “I’m honored to be the next executive director of the Huntington Arts Council with its storied history, and it’s stewardship of the arts on Long Island,” Johnson said. “My lifelong passion has been about increasing accessibility, opening doors, and enforcing that the arts are for everyone.” said Johnson. 2. Wild weather for the week ahead. As we head into the second week of March, more crazy inconsistent weather is coming in our direction. We start the week very warm, but by the weekend we are back into the 30s again. Enjoy today as we will be above 60 temperatures which won't last very long. It seems as if the snow is finished for the year, but you never know in March and April on Long Island. (Huntington Patch)
  3. ICYMI: Walt Whitman teacher awarded $135,000 STEM grant. Frederick Feraco was one of 95 educators across the nation to receive the grant, which is given to advance research in science, math, engineering, and technology. "We are delighted to award these teachers with STEM kits and resources to further their student's pursuit of inquiry-based learning," said Michele Glidden, chief program officer at the Society for Science.
