Here are the top 4 stories today in Huntington:

  1. Harry Chapin's former Huntington Bay neighbor creates his sculpture. Susan Bahary was given the task of creating the sculpture in the late singer-songwriter's honor. "The feeling that stayed with me forever was how giving he was, how he thought about helping young people, and how positive and encouraging a person he was," Bahary, now in her 60s and living in California, told Patch. "In that discussion, I realized that there is somebody there who believed in my ability." Learn more about how this experience came full circle for Bahary in the link. (Huntington Patch)
  2. Mobile camper catches fire on the Long Island Expressway. The camper caught fire in Dix Hills at the Long Island Welcome Center around 10:50 a.m. Tuesday morning. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze with no injuries reported. See photos of the camber ablaze in the link. (Patch)
  3. Huntington Station woman accused of abandoning her cat at Dix Hills Animal Hospital. The 60-year-old woman left her 9-year-old cat outside of the hospital when it was closed and is charged with animal abandonment. Darcy Beard surrendered herself to Suffolk SCPA on July 6. (Daily Voice)
  4. Check out this article on seven mansions you can explore on Long Island. Quite a few are located close to or in the Town of Huntington, giving you some exploration options this summer. (New York Family)
