Here are the top 3 stories today in Huntington:

  1. Huntington High School announces valedictorian and salutatorian for class of 2022. Erin Ye has been named valedictorian and Luke Rinaldi is this year’s Huntington High School salutatorian. “To say that I am proud of these exceptional students is simply an understatement,” Principal Brenden Cusack said. “Erin and Luke are outstanding examples for all of us as they have persevered through the most challenging of times. They have represented Huntington in the finest ways possible and I am so happy for both of them. They truly embody the meaning of the phrase ‘hard work pays off.’”(HUFSD)
  2. After uproar from local and state politicians, Hochul removes affordable housing plan from budget. Huntington officials were not happy with affordable housing plans that were added to the state's budget. The plans would require local governments to allow accessory dwelling units in residential areas that were normally zoned for single-family usage. The outcry was heard by the governor, and on Friday she removed the affordable housing plan. Hochul said: "I have heard real concerns about the proposed approach on accessory dwelling units and transit-oriented development, and I understand that my colleagues in the State Senate believe a different set of tools is needed, even if they agree with the goal of supporting the growth of this kind of housing. So, I am submitting a 30-day amendment to my budget legislation that removes requirements on localities in order to facilitate a conversation about how we build consensus around solutions. " (Patch)
  3. Huntington Station's donated clock tower will get ribbon cutting ceremony. The ribbon ceremony for the electronic clock tower donated by the Huntington Station Business Improvement District will be on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The donation consisted of the clock, landscaping, mulching, plantings and pavers at the corner of Pulaski Rd. and New York Avenue.
