  1. Commack man dies in motorcycle crash on Harned Road. A man was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday night in Commack. James Coogan, 63, of Commack, was riding a 2020 Honda Excelsior motorcycle northbound on Harned Road, west of Florida Avenue, when he crashed his vehicle around 7:20 p.m., police said. Coogan was pronounced dead at the scene. (Huntington Patch)
  2. 'The Takeout Project' delivers help to hungry, restaurants. Dr. Barbara Bolen, a clinical psychologist and a member of the Northport Chamber of Commerce, created The Takeout Project, encouraging people to buy gift cards from Northport restaurants, which are then distributed to local food pantries. Last year the program raised $9,000 from 35 different restaurants. It was only supposed to be a one-year project, but due to the ongoing pandemic the project was brought back this year.   3. Huntington opens warming center as cold settles in. In Huntington, Supervisor Edmund J. Smyth opened the Dix Hills Ice Rink through the weekend as a warming center for the forecasted temperature drop. The center opened Friday and will remain open from 6 a.m. to midnight all weekend to Monday. (http://www.huntingtonNow.com)
  4. Huntington-area unemployment rate improves: new data. COVID-19 affected every aspect of our daily lives. From home life, work life to social life, it has put a damper on us the past two years. The job market was hit especially hard, but the good news is that the Huntington area unemployment rate has improved. The Suffolk County unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in November, down from 4 percent in October. That reflected some improvement from November 2020, when the unemployment rate stood at 5.7 percent.
