Here are the top 4 stories in Huntington today:
- Northport High School junior receives Rensselaer Medal. Todd Petry was awarded the medal, which gives him a $30,000 per year scholarship to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. If Petry applies and gets accepted, he can then use the scholarship. He was selected by teachers and administrators in the school district, where the scholarship is given to one student in each school throughout the state. (Patch)
- Osprey pair returns to Huntington Lighthouse for its second year. The Osprey pair made Huntington its home for the first-time last year, migrated down south for the winter, and are now back again. They originally made their nest on a low-lying pier and a raised platform was then built for the Ospreys. They immediately made it their nest upon return. "The safety of the nesting pair continues to be a priority and look forward to working again with the DEC to provide a safe summer home for our resident ospreys," Pam Setchell, president of the HLPS, said via news release. (Huntington Patch)
- Greenlawn wiffle ball tournament to raise money for charities. The tournament will be held on June 16 at Harborfields High School. There will be both slow and fast pitch games, a homerun derby, raffles, and more. (Huntington Now)
- Oyster Bay swim lessons start registration this month. They will be held at all four town pools at different two-week sessions. "Because we live in a town sandwiched between the Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean, it is extremely important that children in the Town of Oyster Bay learn how to swim," said Councilman Tom Hand. "Our swim lessons have been a hugely popular program for many years as children learn how to safely enjoy fun in the pool under the guidance of our American Red Cross-certified lifeguards." (Patch)
