Huntington Hospital Celebrates Centennial Anniversary

The hospital held a painting and artifacts unveiling ceremony earlier this month.

Huntington Hospital turned 100 years old in the beginning of this month and celebrated this monumental milestone accordingly on May 5.

The hospital held an unveiling of a painting of the original hospital building by Long Island artist Jo-Ann Corretti and also unveiled artifacts from the hospital’s history. The unveiling was held in front of the hospital staff, Northwell Health staff and members of the Huntington community.

“Donor Cornelia Prime and the other hospital founders sought to provide Huntington with the finest healthcare of its time; that very spirit is what guides us today,” Gerard Brogan, Jr., MD, Huntington Hospital executive director, said in a press release. “It’s a privilege to lead this hospital at this momentous time and we look forward to continuing to provide outstanding, nationally recognized care to our community.”

Those who attended the unveiling were also invited to view many photos throughout the hospital’s history as well as the obstetrical equipment of Dr. Sam Teich, who was on staff at Huntington Hospital for more than 50 years and was a founding member of the medical staff.

Huntington Hospital looks to double the size of their current emergency department with a new ED that is set to open in January. While performing construction on this facility, workers discovered a time capsule from the 1960s. Some of the contents of the time capsule were on display for the hospital’s centennial anniversary.
