Huntington Hospital Persists Despite Snowstorm Jonas

Despite approximately two feet of snow hitting the area in just 24 hours, Huntington Hospital took precautions to make sure the hospital operated just like any other day on Saturday.

More than 100 people stayed over at the hospital Saturday night so they wouldn’t have to deal with a dangerous commute.

The hospital’s staff and administration stocked up on extra supplies and food necessary for all the patients’ needs, even for those who unexpectedly stayed overnight. Several meeting were held to make sure the staff was organized enough to take care of the patients throughout the weekend.

“As Dr. Brogan and I were going through the hospital to check each department, many people echoed how proud they were to be helping people and to be part of the Huntington Hospital team,” Mr. Randy Howard, vice president of operations at Huntington Hospital, said in a press release. “We are proud of our staff for pulling together and continuing to put the patient first.”

To help with the parking, two valet parkers were brought to park cars in the employee’s lower level of the parking garage. This also meant the cars weren’t covered with snow.

In the morning, the Engineering Department assisted all motorists in cleaning their cars on the hospital’s campus.

The front lobby turned into a warming and charging station so people could charge their phones and warm themselves.

Prior to the storm, employees were advised to get their homes and personal situations in order so they could care for patents at work without worrying about their personal lives.

Huntington Hospital and all hospitals in the Northwell Health system used an electronic emergency management system to file reports to update their status throughout the storm. Huntington was ready to help anyone who needed assistance.
