Huntington Law Firm Seeks Paid Summer Interen

The Schlitt Law Firm seeks a paid legal intern for the summer of 2016 who is smart, eager to learn & committed to excellence.

The Legal Internship supports our client services and provides an introduction to a client-centered law firm. This is a paid position. We want candidates who are bright, curious, hungry to learn, energetic and committed to excellence. In return, we offer meaningful work, a rich and supportive learning environment and the knowledge that you are making a difference. We provide fair compensation and a supportive, fun working environment where people can do their best work and have a life outside of work.

We seek candidates currently enrolled in a four-year college or recent graduates of a four-year college. We want candidates with a strong liberal arts education who can frame problems, communicate well and work in a collaborative environment. While there is no minimum GPA, we want smart people who can write well. It is important to us that this be a great place to work and we want candidates who are seeking such an environment so they can do great work.

We are a learning organization and want this to be a learning and rewarding experience for our Legal Intern. You will learn about the law and the practice of law, specifically personal injury and medical malpractice. You will learn about working in a small business and working as part of a team. You need not be seeking a career in law, though many of our alumni have gone on to law school and our alumni are now enrolled at Harvard, Michigan, Duke, Boston College, Notre Dame and Northeastern, among other law schools.

Hours: Part-Time. We expect this job will require 20 hours per week. We would prefer someone who can work from 10:30 – 2:30, though we can be flexible with the hours. There may be an opportunity to move to full-time hours.

Pay: We pay our intern $15 per hour.

Term: We are looking for someone who can start right away and work into August.

Educational Opportunities

We have experience working as interns and running internship positions and we have taught in graduate school programs that required managing internship positions. We want to make this experience educational and fulfilling. We can work with your school to help you receive credit. We will educate you on our client services, our case development and our legal process. You will have the opportunity to attend court proceedings and depositions.

What We Seek

We want someone who wants to learn and grow. The candidate should be bright and curious and able to communicate effectively both when writing and speaking. This role requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail. This person must not only to be able to work with other, but enjoy doing so.

We expect that the most competitive candidates will either be in a four-year liberal arts college or recently have graduated from a four year liberal arts college. While we understand why people interested in becoming lawyers may apply, that is not a requirement. We are a service organization dedicated to doing remarkable work for our clients, so we want people committed to that mission. We make extensive use of technology, so you should be comfortable with standard office applications. We expect you will use the following applications on this job: Outlook, Word, Excel and Access. You will have an opportunity to contribute to our social media platforms.

Core Responsibilities

The Legal Intern will help the Lead Attorney, Director of Client Services and Legal Analysts to organize, analyze, develop and prepare cases leading to the presentation of settlement proposals or the prosecution of lawsuits filed on behalf of our clients. Core responsibilities for the Legal Intern include:

· Answering the telephone

· Assisting in analyzing and developing cases. This work may include:

o Organizing the development of cases

o Conducting online research into cases

o Preparing Analysis

· Supporting the prosecution of personal injury and medical malpractice lawsuits:

o Helping prepare Summons and Complaints

o Helping prepare Bills of Particulars

o Tracking and preparing Discovery demands and requests

o Acquiring records to support our cases, including medical records

· Providing core support functions that could include:

o Requesting records

o Managing certain client communications including sending birthday cards, post-settlement thank you gifts and client satisfaction surveys

o Basic clerical support including scanning, filing and shredding

· Contributing to our social media presence

· Delivering remarkable service to our clients

This is an entry-level position, but one with meaningful work where you will contribute immediately.
