HUNTINGTON, NY — There are several events coming to the Huntington Public Library in March. The library is at 338 Main Street, Huntington.

Event: Hatha Yoga with Danielle Tarantola
Location: HPL Main Auditorium
Dates: Wednesdays March 8, 15, 22, 29; April 5, 12, 19, 26 - 8 sessions • $40 fee
Time: 9:30 a.m.
Description: Join India-trained yoga therapist and teacher trainer, Danielle Tarantola, for this Indian approach to physical and mental wellness that highlights and guides you through postures, breathing practices and meditation techniques. Participants should be able to get up and down off the floor and be in general good health for this movement-based class. Please bring a Yoga mat. Registration is required and begins March 1. Event: Bridge for Advanced Beginners / Intermediates

Description: Are you ready to take your bridge game to the next level? Join Dr. Susan Fishbein in this eight-week course to learn and practice successful strategies for declarer play! Patrons must obtain the ACBL Bridge Series textbook, Play of the Hand in the 21st Century [ISBN 978-0-939460-94-6], and bring the textbook to class. Registration is required and begins March 1. Event: Genealogy 101
Location: HPL Main Meeting Room
Date: Saturday, March 11
Time: 11 a.m.
Description: Learn how to correctly start your genealogical research. Guest speaker, April Earle, will share her best tips for staying organized and searching databases like Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. In addition to dismissing the most common myths about genealogy research, we will look at the significance of census records, the importance of seeing the actual document, and uncover the secrets in plain sight on passenger lists. Registration is required. HPL cardholders only until March 5. Open to all after March 5.
Event: Irish Songs and Stories with Gil McLean

Date: Saturday, March 11
Time: 2 p.m.
Description: Guitarist and vocalist Gil McLean performs Irish songs ranging from the 1800s to more modern times and tells the stories behind them.
Event: The Usual Suspects: True Crime Club.
Location: HPL Main Meeting Room
Date: Monday, March 13
Time: 7 p.m.
Description: Each month will focus on a different true crime case with theories, suspects and coverage being discussed. Interviews and videos will also be used to analyze the details of the different cases. This month The Delphi Murders will be discussed.
"The murder of Abigail Williams and Liberty German shocked the community of Delphi, Indiana," the library wrote. "Their bodies were discovered in an area popular with the hiking and outdoor community, as well as local teenagers and kids just looking to get outside and explore nature. In this meeting, we'll discuss the theories, suspects and more related to the Delphi Murders."

Event: The Life and Art Collection of Peggy Guggenheim

Date: Tuesday, March 14
Time: 2 p.m.
Description: "I was a liberated woman long before there was a name for it." In many ways, Guggenheim was pivotal in getting so-called ‘degenerate’ art safely out of Europe on the eve of WWII as well as encouraging European artists to wait out the war in the United States. Learn more about her life and impact on the art world with lecturer Mary Vahey. Registration is required and begins March 1st. Open to all.

Time: 3 p.m.
Event: Film Historian Larry Wolff presents the behind-the scenes stories of the making of this classic Irish and American love story. You’ll learn how the ending almost wasn’t included in the final cut! After the presentation, film highlights will be shown. A book and memorabilia collection will also be on display for attendees to view. Registration is required and begins March 1. Open to all.
Event: Starting Your Organic Vegetable Garden

Description: Now is the perfect time to begin your vegetable garden! Renato Stafford will discuss designing and laying out your growing locations, building raised beds, irrigation systems, selecting and starting seeds, growing techniques, garden maintenance, and will share seeds of heirloom tomato varieties he has been growing for years. Description: Did you know that Long Island is home to some of the most dangerous roads in the U.S.? Join the library's expert pedestrian and bike safety panel from the New York Coalition for Transportation Safety (NYCTS) for an eye-opening, virtual workshop about New York State laws and technologies meant to protect you on local Long Island roadways. Brought to you by NYCTS in partnership with the Long Island Health Collaborative (LIHC) and Walk Safe Long Island (WSLI) education campaign. Registration required and begins March 1. Open to all.
Event: Beyond the Book with The CSH Whaling Museum - In the Heart of the Sea
Location: Offsite at Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum

Time: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Event: "In the Heart of the Sea" by Nathaniel Philbrick details the loss of the whaleship Essex in 1820, the event which inspired the quintessential book "Moby Dick." Get up close with the heart of this story as the library explores the museum’s historic whaleboat - the only fully equipped whaling vessel with its original gear on display in New York - which truly brings the book’s theme to light. The educator-led talk will leave readers with a clear understanding of what it means to live on a whaleboat for weeks, even months at time.
Read at home and go on new adventures through history - then meet at the museum to dive deeper into stories through connections with the museum’s artifacts. Book club registrants receive a short video at the start of the month that explores an item from the museum’s collection relating to the text. A discussion question will be included to get readers excited for what’s to come. Enjoy coffee and cookies while you chat! Registration required and open to all.
Event: Impresarios & Visionaries Documentary Screening & Discussion

Description: Huntington is the primary focus of this inspirational documentary that explores the positive influence that the arts have on community. The film celebrates respective co-founders Vic Skolnick of Cinema Arts Centre and Michael Rothbard of Inter-Media Arts Center, both in Huntington, New York. These two pioneers were pivotal in establishing a cutting-edge arts scene in suburbia. "Impresarios & Visionaries" shines a light onto the magical synergy and warm energy that occurs when presenter, performer and audience are in sync. A Q&A session with the filmmaker will follow the screening. Registration required and begins March 1. Open to all.
Event: Red Hot Mamas

Description: The Red Hot Mamas, ages from 55-85 years old, have been kicking up their heels in the New York area for over the past 25 years. These senior tap dancers have a repertoire of over 30 dances, including selections from Broadway shows, old time favorites and modern popular music.
