Huntington Lighthouse In Need Of $180K To Continue Construction

If the June 25 deadline is not met, work to restore the historic lighthouse will stop.

The Huntington Lighthouse needs to raise $180,000 by the end of June for necessary construction to continue, according to the Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society.

The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been a trusted navigational aid to mariners, a landmark for the community and an educational resource for visitors for more than a century.

If the June 25 deadline is not met, work on the lighthouse will stop. This means progress on the lighthouse will be set back and it will cost additional funds to restart the project.

The nonprofit Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society (HLPS) has raised more than $500,000 and secured a $250,000 State of New York matching grant to begin construction.

Despite this, the society still needs $180,000 to continue the work as critical foundation repair work still needs to be done.
