Huntington Police Blotter: iPhones, iPad Stolen From Unlocked Car

ALSO: A mother was scammed by someone who used artificial intelligence to fake her daughter's voice, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Huntington area from April 30 through May 6.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • May 5: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Railroad Street in Huntington Station at midnight. Tools were stolen from an unlocked detached garage outside a home, police said.
  • May 2: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Windham Drive in South Huntington at 1:21 p.m. A woman received a phone call from a scammer faking her daughter's voice with the use of artificial intelligence, police said. The scammer asked the woman for money for a car crash her "daughter" supposedly had been in, police said. The mother withdrew the cash and gave it to a scammer, police said.
  • May 1: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported at Walt Whitman Shops in South Huntington at 1:30 p.m. Multiple iPhones and an iPad were stolen from an unlocked 2020 Acura, police said.
