Huntington Police Blotter: Man Strikes Woman With Jump Rope

The woman's daughter was present when her mom was hit, police say. The man is also accused of assaulting a police officer, police say.

HUNTINGTON, NY — These are recent arrests made in the Huntington area from Nov. 13 through Nov. 20.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Wilmar Morales, 39, of Huntington Station, entered The Three Stars Restaurant on West Hills Road in Huntington Station at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 3 through an unlocked back window, police said. Morales stole cash from the cash register and bottles of liquor, police said. He was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary: illegal entry w/ intent on Nov. 20.
  • Derlin Sanchez, 41, of Huntington Station, used a conduit bender to strike a Hyundai Elantra, breaking the windows and windshield on Nov. 14, police said. Some of the glass from the Hyundai hit the victim, police said. Sanchez, while holding a knife, raised his arm and waved it at someone else, around 8 p.m. Nov. 16, police said. He also exposed his genitalia in public, police said. On Nov. 17, Sanchez threw rocks at someone's vehicle, police said. On Nov. 18, Sanchez struck a woman in her back with a jump rope in front of her daughter while in Huntington Station, police said. While resisting arrest, Sanchez assaulted a police officer who had to get medical treatment, police said. He was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree criminal mischief: property of $250 or more, one count of third-degree assault w/ intent to cause physical injury w/ weapon, one count of second-degree assault: intent to cause physical injury to officer, one count of assault, one count of act in manner injuring child less than 17, one count of second-degree menacing: weapon, one count of exposure of a person, and one count of resisting arrest on Nov. 18.
