Huntington Police Blotter: Officer Injured While Arresting Man
ALSO: A man driving with a suspended license was found to be in possession of a 9 mm handgun that was reported stolen, police say.
HUNTINGTON, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Huntington area from Dec. 31 through Jan. 6.
The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- Jan. 6: Jamel Curry, 52, of Huntington Station, was driving a 2000 Kia westbound on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station at 11:15 p.m. when officers stopped him for a traffic violation and found his license had been suspended on three or more dates, police said. Curry was in possession of a 9 mm handgun that was previously reported stolen, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
- Jan. 1: Eric Sanders, 44, of Huntington Station, ran away from officers who tried to arrest him in connection with an active bench warrant around 9:15 a.m. Jan. 1 in Huntington Station, police said. Sanders was involved in an altercation with an officer who suffered an injured shoulder, police said. Sanders had a glass pipe with crack cocaine, police said. The department could not provide details on the act in manner injuring child under 17 charge, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault: cause physical injury to officer, act in manner injuring child under 17, resisting arrest, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and a bench warrant.
