Huntington Police Blotter: Woman Scammed Out Of More Than $16K
ALSO: Two men were assaulted, and another person was scammed into buying $3,000 worth of gift cards police say.
HUNTINGTON, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Huntington area from April 9 through April 15.
The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- April 15: Assault (second-degree) was reported on Crooked Hill Road in Huntington at 9:14 p.m. A man was slashed on the upper forearm with a knife during an argument, police said. The man went to Huntington Hospital, police said.
- April 14: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Bayberry Drive in Huntington at noon. Someone called claiming they were from a bank's fraud department, police said. A person was scammed into purchasing $3,000 worth of gift cards, police said.
- April 12: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on West Hills Road in Huntington Station at 10:06 a.m. Someone tried to deposit a fraudulent check, police said. The bank denied the check and notified the woman of the fraudulent attempt, police said.
- April 11: Assault (second-degree) was reported on East Ninth Street in Huntington Station at 3:41 p.m. A man was struck over the head with a bottle by another man, police said. The man was cut and had to get medical treatment at Huntington Hospital, police said.
- April 10: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on North Woodhull Road in Huntington at 7:42 p.m. A woman got locked out of her computer by a person she did not know, police said. The scammer asked for her banking information to resolve the problem, police said. The woman was told to buy gift cards, police said. She purchased $16,600 in gift cards, police said.
- April 10: Burglary (second-degree) was reported on Walt Whitman Road in South Huntington at 3:33 a.m. Someone stole three pairs of Red Wing work boots, police said.
