Huntington St. Patrick's Day Parade 2017: What You Need to Know

One of the oldest and largest traditions on Long Island returns for its 83rd year.

Up to 50,000 people are expected to gather in Huntington Village on the second Sunday of March for the oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Long Island.

A Huntington tradition in its 83rd year, the parade will feature bagpipe bands and more than 25 marching bands from across Long Island. The celebration kicks off at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12.

The parade will start north of the Huntington Train Station along New York Avenue before turning west onto Main Street and ending at Saint Patrick’s Church at 400 West Main St. Check out a map of the parade route here.

This year’s grand marshal is Town of Huntington Councilman Eugene Cook. He is an active Huntington Ancient Order of Hibernians, marches annually in the parade and serves as the parade emcee.

As they do every year, the Huntington Ancient Order of Hibernians, the parade’s organizers, will march dressed in their gray morning suit tuxedos.

“We take a great deal of pride in putting on the Parade,” AOH Parade Grand Marshal Dominick Feeney, Jr., said in a press release. Feeney’s grandfather was a founding father of the current Huntington AOH. “We work hard to make sure the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is a wonderful Huntington community event,” Feeney said.

This parade is thanks to the Hibernians, who organize promote, run and raise the money needed to pay for all the parade-related expenses.
