Huntington Station Man Seriously Injured Post-LIE Rollover Crash

The 30-year-old Huntington Station man lost control of the car, causing it to roll over and crash into the woods: Suffolk Police.

HAUPPAUGE, NY—A man was seriously injured after he crashed his car on the Long Island Expressway in Hauppauge on early Monday, according to Suffolk Police.

Hugo A. Chavez, 30, of Huntington Station, was driving a 2007 Honda sedan westbound on the LIE when he lost control of the car between exits 55 and 56 around 12:35 a.m.

After his car repeatedly rolled over, Chavez was ejected and thrown into the right lane of the roadway. The car crashed into the woods.

Two bystanders pulled Chavez off the roadway.

Melqui Misael Chevez Rivas, 22, of Huntington Station, the front passenger in the Honda, stayed in the car until it came to rest.

Chavez was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Chevez Rivas was transported via Hauppauge Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
