Huntington Station Shelter Receives Grant From Long Island Cares

The grant provides funding for staff costs.

HAUPPAUGE, NY — The Harry Chapin Food Bank has awarded $12,000 in grants to partner shelters/pantries Resurrection House and Haven House/Bridges, according to a news release. Haven House/Bridges has a Huntington Station outpost.

The grants are part of the Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) administered by the New York State Department of Health.

The “Operations Support” grant provides funding for staff costs. Resurrection House was awarded
$3,000 for staff at its Wyandanch location. Haven House/Bridges will use its $9,000 grant for staffing at Huntington Station, Brentwood and Central Islip.

Long Island Cares annually administers $250,000 in lines of credit, seed grants and operational support funding.

Haven House/Bridges provides housing, training and guidance to homeless families, single mothers, and young children. It has been a partner agency of Long Island Cares since 1997.

“Our Long Island Cares accounts allow our shelters to order food to help create well-balanced,
nutritious meals for the families in our care,” said Angela Klyvert, program director of Haven House/Bridges. “HHB is grateful to receive the grant, because it allows us to continue to provide optimal services to the population we serve.”
