Two teachers from South Huntington School District teamed up to publish a book that teaches children they were born to be happy.

Dana Livoti and Anne Oliveri are first grade teachers who hold the same philosophy. “We always focus on empowering children,” Oliveri said to Patch.

The teachers feel that emotional growth is neglected in the school curriculum. Livoti and Oliveri sought out to change that by authoring the book, “It Feels Good to Be Me.”

In the book, the main character is a girl around 6-years-old. The story begins with the girl singing, “When I look in the mirror, I like what I see. I say to myself, ‘It feels good to be me!’”

“It Feels Good to Be Me” is about teaching children that they were born to be happy. It shows kids how they can pay attention to their thoughts and feelings.

“When you recognize this power within you, you realize you are the creator of your life,” Oliveri said. “Even adults don’t know that concept.”

Livoti and Oliveri work as first grade teachers at Countrywood Primary Center. Oliveri retired in June and Livoti is still there today.

The authors hold workshops that empower children and are in the process of authoring another book, “There is Magic in Me,” which teaches children they are creators of their own lives. The story will be a follow-up to their first book. The authors are hoping to have it published by mid-summer.
