Rep. Tom Suozzi plans to visit immigration camps in Texas following a combative town hall meeting in Huntington.
HUNTINGTON, NY — Rep. Tom Suozzi is traveling to Texas later today to visit immigration camps after a combative Town Hall meeting in Huntington on the subject. Suozzi is going to camps in McAllen and Brownsville to see firsthand the conditions at the migrant detention centers and "shine a light on the conditions" within the centers, according to his Facebook page.
At the Huntington Town Hall meeting Suozzi was jeered when he told the crowd that he was part of the problem solving caucus on the issue of migrant detention centers.
Suozzi, who represents the state's 3rd Congressional District, also called out President Donald Trump for his handling of immigrants looking to come into the United States .

"Meanwhile, the President is threatening to launch massive raids targeting thousands of immigrants," he said. "This is just wrong! People should not have to live in constant fear, nor should they be used as pawns."
Suozzi is currently the co-sponsor of three pieces of immigrant camp related legislation: H.R 3239, which has to do with proper medical care standards for adults and children in custody at the border, H.R 3451, which looks to provide legal protections for separated children, and H.R 2203, which looks to provide more accountability to the Department of Homeland Security.
