Lupinacci Announces 2016 New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators Scholarship

Four $2,500 scholarships are being awarded for academic, athletic achievements

Today, Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I – South Huntington) announced that applications for the 2016 New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators Scholarship are now available. This year’s recipients will be invited to Albany to receive their award at the Annual Conference Weekend this June.

“With the rising cost of higher education, it is important that we as community leaders look for ways to assist our brightest and most talented students in following their dreams of attending college,” Lupinacci said. “I am proud to announce the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators will be awarding four $2,500 scholarships.”

Two scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit - the Assemblyman James D. Conte Memorial Scholarship, while the remainder will be granted based on athletic recognition as the Senator John J. Marchi Memorial Scholarship.

“These scholarships will help ease the financial strain many young adults and their families face when pursuing a college degree,” Lupinacci said. “With so many bright and talented young people in our community, the awards committee is sure to have a difficult decision on its hands.”

The bipartisan Italian-American conference is composed of members from both the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate. Members are heavily involved with promoting and highlighting the accomplishments of Italian-American New Yorkers while challenging and dispelling negative stereotypes.
