LUPINACCI DISCUSSES CHANGING DEMOGRAPHICS ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES

Lupinacci attended a Higher Education Committee hearing focused on the changing demographics of students on college campuses.

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R, C, I – South Huntington) on Tuesday attended a Higher Education Committee hearing focused on the changing demographics of students in higher education and educational opportunity programs.

“As a college professor, I’ve seen the changing demographics on college campuses firsthand, and I’m glad our committee was prepared to discuss this topic,” said Lupinacci, who teaches at Farmingdale State College, Hofstra University and Saint Joseph’s College.

Lupinacci, the Ranking Minority Member on the committee, heard from several panels recommending solutions for improving student support systems.

After the hearing, the Assemblyman pledged to continue his advocacy for “well-funded programs that provide services for every demographic on our college campuses.”

“New York State college campuses are seeing an increase in students who did not attend college directly after high school,” Lupinacci said. “These students might have full-time jobs, have children, or be financially independent. It’s important that private colleges and the SUNY and CUNY systems serve students from all demographics and provide them with the resources they need to complete their degree and prepare them for life after graduation.”
