LUPINACCI: GOV'S VETO IS BAD MEDICINE FOR HEALTH SCIENCE CENTERS

Lupinacci recently expressed his disappointment in the Gov.'s decision to veto legislation that would preserve funding for SUNY and CUNY

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R, C, I-South Huntington) on Monday expressed his disappointment in Governor Andrew Cuomo’s decision to veto legislation that would preserve funding for SUNY and CUNY health science centers. Assembly Bill 5370 passed both houses in June and was delivered to the Governor in late December.

“These health science centers serve a dual purpose in our communities – they provide exceptional care to patients and lay the foundation for hundreds of future physicians and doctors. If SUNY and CUNY health science centers are going to continue to serve our communities, they need robust support from Albany,” said Lupinacci, who co-sponsored the recently vetoed bill (A.5370). “This law would have generated guaranteed state funding for these health and science centers that have experienced significant budget cuts in recent years.”

“Both houses of the New York State Legislature agreed that the state should increase its support for these medical learning centers,” Lupinacci added. “Governor Cuomo’s veto is a disservice to SUNY and CUNY institutions, as it endorses the unfair financial burden that these institutions face.”
