LUPINACCI HELPS PASS BILL TO PROTECT NYS FIREFIGHTERS
Lupinacci is proud to announce that legislation to better protect NYS firefighter has recently passed into law.

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I-South Huntington) is proud to announce that Assembly Bill 6242, which provides greater protection for volunteer firefighters who develop lung disease, was recently signed into law. Lupinacci co-sponsored the legislation.
“The courageous men and women in our volunteer fire departments deserve our support now and in the future,” said Lupinacci. “This bill will provide volunteer firefighters who risk their lives for our communities quicker access to medical attention they may need.”
Firefighters are exposed to multiple synthetic chemicals from plastics and other substances while fighting fires, and have a higher risk of contracting lung diseases than the average adult. Assembly Bill 6242, which passed the Assembly in May, helps guarantee that volunteer firefighters receive the proper medical treatment and services they need when they sustain injuries while fighting fires.

“I’m glad that my colleagues in the legislature understand the health risks that volunteer firefighters endure while protecting our communities. We need to protect those who protect us and our families. Roughly 90 percent of the fire departments in the United States are voluntary, and we are lucky to have several located on Long Island,” concluded Lupinacci.
